Humans have a deep rooted affinity with nature. Our physical body, nervous system, genes, brain, and psyche have co-evolved with it, and over thousands of years it has offered us an unconditional place to ‘be’.
Because of this understanding, Honne places contact with nature at the center of our ability to maintain and restore an emotional equilibrium and state of wellbeing. Nature-informed therapy weaves the natural environments and exploration of landscape into its therapeutic process. Through immersion, it helps clients to connect with nature - human and more-than-human - and cultivate a restorative, accepting and sustainable way of living.
The landscape is not just the setting for sessions, but a creative and co-regulating ally, which offers symbolic, ancient, aesthetic and expansive perspectives and ways of relating. Co-facilitating with Mimi, the natural landscape offers sights, sounds, sensations, obstacles and opportunities which can be used to explore your own internal landscape and relationship with self, others and the more-than-human world. Sessions can take place sitting in one location, or meandering through it. The ever shifting atmosphere, weather and terrain make every moment unique, and a gentle practice for cultivating adaptability and resilience in times of change and uncertainty.
Time in the natural environment itself can offer a sense of peacefulness, easing anxieties and soothing low moods. It also stimulates our creativity, curiosity and sense of wonder, offering perspectives that stretch far beyond the anxious mind. When we listen to and perceive the cycles, seasons, patterns and processes found in nature, we also access the wisdom of our own being and the potential for our own growth.
Nature teaches us how to be and become.
